Who I Work With

A winding mountain road with snow-covered slopes on either side, under an overcast sky.

therapist case consultation services, clinical consultation and therapist support, burnout prevention consultation for therapists, evidence-informed therapist consultation, professional development for therapists, consultation calls for clinical decision-making, stress management and clinical support, clinician support and coaching, continuing education consultation

MCC provides consultation for therapists, counselors, and mental health clinicians at all experience levels—whether you’re new to practice or managing complex cases. I help with trauma-informed care, substance use assessments, treatment planning, and navigating clinical or ethical challenges. My goal is to give practical, personalized guidance you can apply immediately to support your clients and grow your practice.

Note: Consultation is not supervision and does not substitute for necessary support in that capacity.

Why Consultation Matters

We consult to seek clarity, act with integrity, and always stay curious.

You don’t have to do this work alone.

Therapy is deeply relational, complex, and emotionally demanding work. Even the most experienced clinicians benefit from having space to slow down, reflect, and think collaboratively about their cases, their clinical decisions, and themselves as practitioners.

Consultation is not about being “stuck” or doing something wrong — it’s about supporting ethical, thoughtful, and sustainable clinical practice.

Consultation Strengthens Clinical Work

Clinical consultation provides a structured space to:

  • Think through complex or high-risk cases

  • Explore clinical blind spots with curiosity rather than judgment

  • Integrate theory with real-world practice

  • Clarify next steps when things feel murky or overwhelming

Having another clinician walk alongside you can bring new perspective, deeper insight, and renewed confidence in your clinical choices.

Support for the Therapist — Not Just the Case

Consultation isn’t only about techniques or interventions. It’s also about you as a clinician.

Many therapists seek consultation to:

  • Process countertransference and emotional impact

  • Reduce isolation in solo or group practice

  • Prevent burnout and compassion fatigue

  • Strengthen professional identity and confidence

  • Normalize the challenges of doing this work well

Being supported helps you stay grounded, present, and engaged — both in session and over the long term.

Ethical and Professional Responsibility

Consultation is a key component of ethical practice across mental health disciplines. Seeking consultation demonstrates:

  • Commitment to client welfare

  • Willingness to reflect and grow

  • Respect for the limits of individual perspective

  • Ongoing professional development

Rather than a sign of inadequacy, consultation is a marker of professionalism and integrity.

A Collaborative, Non-Judgmental Space

Effective consultation is not evaluative or hierarchical. It is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in curiosity.

My approach to consultation emphasizes:

  • Mutual respect and shared clinical thinking

  • Thoughtful questioning rather than quick answers

  • Integration of your clinical style, values, and theoretical orientation

  • A pace that allows for reflection rather than pressure

This is a space where you can bring uncertainty, complexity, and curiosity — without needing to perform or prove competence.

My Experience

  • My name is Toni Miller. I am a LPC and AADC in Idaho and a LAC in South Dakota. I am an avid believer that everyone can do good and life fully with access to resources and support through challenges.

  • I take a whole-person approach: I notice how your experiences and strengths helped you get through life. I help you recognize those parts and find healthier peace with yourself. As a peer consultant for therapists and grad students, I focus on building confidence and practical skills while encouraging self-reliance.

  • I have 10 years of experience in helping professions and 5 years as a mental health and addictions counselor. I am also a PhD student in Counselor Education and Supervision at Walden, researching trauma treatment for my dissertation.
